What is important to look for when violin shopping?
I'm hoping to get a new violin soon, and I need to make sure I make the right purchase. I don't know much about violins and the terms and stuff.
Go by your ears and eyes. Play it loud all across the range, listen for a clear loud tone & no rattles. Check that it tunes easily and stays in tune. Look at it closely for how it's carved and finished - any flaws? Make sure it's all solid woods (ask the dealer or check the manual) You can get good violins from Europe now for $300 - 500.
